🎉 Claude's Docs, Slides and Design tools just went free
Anthropic's Claude Docs, Slides and Design tools leave beta and land on every plan, including Free.
Four-minute read. In today’s issue: Claude’s writing, slide and design tools go free for everyone, Claude dashboards and animated explainers in beta, Shopify writing your store policies for you, and a free upscaler for fuzzy product photos.
ACCESS
Claude’s Docs, Slides and Design leave beta, free plan included
What changed. Anthropic said on 8 October that Claude Docs, Slides and Design are out of beta and available on every plan, including the free one. Files now export to PowerPoint or PDF with their formatting kept, or straight to Google Slides.
What it means for you. A business on Claude’s free plan can now ask it to draft a document, build out a Slides file, or lay out a Design file, without upgrading to a paid tier first.
The first step. This week, open Claude on the free plan and ask it to turn a rough brief into a formatted Slides file or Doc, export it to PowerPoint, then weigh the result against what a template or freelancer would have cost.
The limitation. Anthropic does not say what usage limits apply to these tools on the free plan, and we have not tested how their output compares with the paid plans.

DATA
Claude can now keep a live dashboard and make short animated explainers, in beta
In the same post, Anthropic opened two betas. Dashboards turns company data into a chart page that keeps itself up to date, and you can click any number to see where it came from. It is on paid plans and connects to data warehouses and Salesforce for now.
Motion makes short animated explainers from a prompt and exports them as MP4 files, on Team and Enterprise plans only. If you are on Team, try a 20-second “how to order” clip for your website.

Just shipped
Shopify now writes your store policies for you. Shopify can generate your refund, shipping, contact, terms of service and legal-notice policies, and keeps them in sync when your store settings change. You stay responsible for what they say.
Live now under Settings > Policies > “Use automated policy”. Switch it on, then read the refund policy once against how you actually handle returns. (changelog.shopify.com)
The rest of the day
🛒 Shopify added two new connectors: one links your store to Grok so you can ask questions about your business, the other links to a tool for building a team of agents to help run it. If you already use Grok, ask it one simple question about this week’s sales. (x.com)
🎬 OpenAI highlighted Pollo AI, a tool built on its models that turns a creative brief straight into a finished ad campaign. Worth a look if your team is still building campaign creative by hand. (openai.com)
🔐 Google reportedly bid $10 million for Spirit Airlines’ old email and Teams archives to train AI agents, a reminder that old business data keeps value, and risk, long after you stop paying for the tool that made it. (youtube.com)
💬 Claude was the most-talked-about AI topic again, from 13 separate sources in a day. If you have been waiting for a reason to try it, today’s free-plan change is one. (x.com)
🛠️ Built with AI
🐰 Higgsfield, which sells an AI video tool, made a brand-mascot animation with Claude Motion and its own Katana editor, every move scripted rather than drawn. If you have a mascot or logo, the same move gets you a short animated clip for social posts. (x.com)
🧰 The Open Source Toolshed
What it is. Upscayl is a free, open-source app that uses AI to enlarge and sharpen low-resolution images, built for upscaling photos without the blur you get from stretching them in a normal editor.
Who it’s for. Any small business with old, blurry or low-resolution product photos, logos or scanned images it wants to reuse at a larger size, with no design software subscription.
How hard it is. Download the free app for Mac, Windows or Linux, drag in an image and export the upscaled version; no account or technical setup needed.

📈 The AI Odometer

Source: Epoch AI, “US adults are no more likely to face cyber incidents than when Claude Fable 5 launched”, Caroline Falkman Olsson and Yafah Edelman, 7 October 2026, Epoch AI/Ipsos polling. Licensed CC BY 4.0.
In September, about 45% reported at least one incident in the past 12 months, such as an account break-in or a data leak, compared to 46% in June.
What it means for you. Smarter AI has not made attacks more common yet, but nearly half of adults still hit one a year, mostly convincing spam. Turn on two-step sign-in for your business email and payment accounts this week.
Too early
Anthropic lists Canva as “coming soon” for opening Claude Motion videos, and Looker, monday.com and Tableau for Dashboards. No dates yet. (claude.com)
🔁 One for the road
Dan Shipper put words to a very 2026 feeling this week: “tfw your ChatGPT app is controlling your Claude app is controlling your ChatGPT app.” Two assistants, each quietly running the other, forever.
No work use for this one. Just a reminder that the people building AI agents for a living still find the loop a little funny. (x.com)
