šŸ“£ ChatGPT can now work across your open Chrome tabs

Four-minute read. In today’s issue: ChatGPT working across your open browser tabs, Copilot Business switching on pay-as-you-go billing, Gmail turning email into a to-do list, a private meeting note-taker, and AI decoys wasting 17 years of scammers’ time.

BROWSER

ChatGPT can now read, fill in and tidy your open Chrome tabs

What changed. ChatGPT said on 15 October that its Chrome extension can now look across your open tabs, group them, and in Work mode take over tabs to fill in forms, send messages and download files. It is on every ChatGPT plan, and also runs in Edge and Brave.

What it means for you. The comparing and copying between tabs is the part ChatGPT now does. Open three supplier quotes and ask which is cheapest for your usual order, or have it fill in a booking form from details on another page.

The first step. Install the extension this week, open the tabs for one job you repeat, and ask Chat mode to compare them before you let Work mode click anything.

The limitation. It asks before acting on each new site, and always before downloading, uploading or reading your history. OpenAI’s own guide says to keep passwords and other secrets out of browser tasks unless you have checked them.

BILLING

Microsoft 365’s AI assistant will bill extra use by default from 1 December

Microsoft told its resellers on 14 October that new Copilot Business licences bought through them will have usage-based billing on by default from 1 December, with a default ceiling of 4,000 Copilot Credits per user a month.

Extras such as Copilot Cowork draw on those credits, and the notice puts no price on one. Ask whoever sells you Microsoft 365 how your next seats will be billed, and set a lower monthly limit before December.

ChatGPT Plus and Pro no longer cap how many Sites you can build. Sites is ChatGPT’s built-in website maker: describe a page, preview it, then publish it to your team or the public.

Build one page per offer or event instead of reusing one crowded page. Sites cannot take payments yet, and public publishing is not open in the UK or Europe. (help.openai.com)

The rest of the day

šŸ“„ Gmail’s AI Inbox is reaching paid Google Workspace accounts: it pulls to-dos and deadlines out of your email and sums up long threads. US English only for now; open it from the Gmail menu once it appears. (workspaceupdates.googleblog.com)

šŸ”— Google’s AI Mode and AI Overviews now show more links to websites, and Google is testing a box at the top that points to the official site for a task. Make sure the page that books, quotes or sells is easy to find on your site. (blog.google)

šŸ›”ļø Android’s Circle to Search now checks a suspicious text message for scam signs. Show your team before the next fake ā€œinvoice overdueā€ text arrives. (blog.google)

šŸ—£ļø ChatGPT Voice is getting GPT-Live-1.1, with more natural accents and new voices in French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Korean and Mexican Spanish. Practise a supplier call in another language first. (help.openai.com)

šŸ“Š A Meta survey run by YouGov of 3,983 small business owners in nine Asia-Pacific markets found 84% use AI and 38% use it to translate. Run your best product page through translation for one new market this week. (about.fb.com)

šŸ› ļø Built with AI

A Reddit user asked Meta’s Muse agent for a Facebook feed of only real friends’ life updates, once a day, with no ads or rants. Muse now sends lines like ā€œSam Wight had a good day of crabbingā€. Ask an agent for the same daily digest of your customers’ public posts. (reddit.com)

🧰 The Open Source Toolshed

What it is. Meetily is a free meeting note-taker that records, transcribes and summarises calls entirely on your own computer, so nothing is uploaded.

Who it’s for. An owner who takes client or staff calls and wants notes without sending the recording to someone else’s cloud.

How hard it is. Download the installer for a Mac or Windows PC; summaries also need a free local model app or an AI account key, so allow half an hour.

šŸ“ˆ The AI Odometer

New York Fed bar chart: small businesses using AI expect revenue and hiring to grow far more than non-users, net 48.2 against 20.6 for revenue and 32.7 against 15.2 for employment

Source: Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Liberty Street Economics, ā€œAI Adoption and Employment Expectations: Evidence from a Survey of Small Business Ownersā€, 8 October 2026, Will Aarons and Asani Sarkar, from the 2025 Small Business Credit Survey.

those who currently use AI had a 33 percentage point net expectation of higher employment in the next twelve months, while non-users had only a 15 percentage point net expectation

What it means for you. Firms using AI expect to hire more, not less. Before your next job ad, list the new person’s tasks and test one on an AI tool this week, so the hire gets the work AI can’t do.

Too early

Google has delayed skills inside Gmail, Docs and the other Workspace apps, and says a new date comes ā€œonce confirmedā€. Skills in the Gemini app itself are rolling out now, finishing by mid-November. (workspaceupdates.googleblog.com)

šŸŽ£ One for the road

Australian startup Apate sends thousands of AI ā€œvictimsā€ to answer scam calls, texts and emails, in different ages, accents and languages, and keeps the scammers talking.

By its own count the decoys have wasted 17 years of scammers’ time across 2.5 million conversations. The team celebrates when a scammer swears at a bot. (techcrunch.com)
