Where it breaks

This is built for bulk, automated publishing at scale — the per-article cost (roughly $4 at Starter, down to about $3.30 at Scale) only makes sense if you're genuinely running dozens of articles a month; a business writing a handful of pieces monthly is paying for infrastructure it won't use.

Direct publishing connectors into WordPress and Webflow — articles go from generation straight to a live CMS entry rather than a document you copy over manually. Widely used in the programmatic-SEO community specifically for that publish-without-touching-it workflow.

Byword’s whole pitch is the last step other AI writing tools leave to you: publishing. Most tools in this category, including Koala AI, generate the article and stop — you still copy it into your CMS, format it, and hit publish. Byword connects directly to WordPress or Webflow and does that last step automatically, which is the actual bottleneck once you’re producing content at any real volume.

What that automation actually costs

At $99/mo for 25 articles, that’s roughly $4 an article before any human review — cheap for volume, but worth being honest about what “automated publishing” means for quality control. Nothing here stops a factually wrong or off-brand article from going live unreviewed; the automation removes the manual step, not the judgment call about whether the content is good enough to publish unattended.

Where the tiers matter

The jump from Starter (25 articles) to Scale (300 articles) is pure volume — there’s no meaningful feature difference described between tiers beyond how many articles publish per month. Pick based on your actual publishing cadence rather than assuming a higher tier unlocks better content; it doesn’t.

What it doesn’t do

Like Koala AI, this is a volume content tool aimed at programmatic SEO, not a brand-voice writing assistant. If you’re publishing under a name people recognise and trust, review each article before it goes live — the direct-publish workflow makes it easy to skip that step, which is exactly the risk to watch for.
