Where it breaks

Browser-based; the jump from Chat to Growth is a jump in category as much as price — Chat is a drafting tool, Growth and above are workflow automation platforms billed annually.

First entry in this reference. There is no previous check to compare it against.

Copy.ai started as a marketing-copy generator and has moved decisively toward being a go-to-market automation platform, and the pricing table makes that shift obvious: Chat, the cheap self-serve tier, is a genuinely different product from Growth and above, which run multi-step workflows — researching an account, drafting outbound sequences, building content briefs — as an automated process rather than a series of prompts a person runs manually.

That distinction matters before comparing price. At $29/month, Chat competes with any general AI writing tool and gives access to OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini models in one place, useful if a team wants model choice without three separate subscriptions. Growth at $1,000/month is a completely different purchase decision — it’s workflow infrastructure for a revenue team, priced and sold more like Clay or an enterprise automation platform than a writing tool.

17M+ registered users reported gives a sense of how many people have used the free-to-low-cost end of the product, but that number says little about adoption of the workflow tier, which is a newer and much more expensive bet. A team evaluating Copy.ai for the workflow capability should treat it as evaluating a different product than the one most reviews and comparisons are written about.

Against Clay specifically, the overlap is real for account research and outbound workflows — the practical difference tends to be which tool’s existing integrations match your stack more closely, since both are selling the same underlying idea of automating what a GTM team used to do by hand across several disconnected tools.
