What changes. OpenAI shuts down the Sora API on 24 September. That is the last piece of Sora still running; the app itself closed in April. (help.openai.com)
What it means at your size. If you made anything in Sora — a promo clip, a product shot, the thing you never used — it is still sitting on OpenAI’s servers, and OpenAI says that once the shutdown and any final export window have passed it will permanently delete the lot. There is no archive to go back to, and nobody will chase you about it.
The first step. Go to sora.chatgpt.com/sunset and click Export. You get an email when the file is ready. The page says you can export “at any time”, which is true right up until it is not, and OpenAI’s own instruction is to do it “as soon as possible”.
The limitation. This only matters if you used Sora, and the app has been gone since April, so plenty of people never did. If you bought Sora credits, they are not lost: OpenAI says they can still be spent on Codex. We have not run the export ourselves, so this describes what OpenAI documents.

While ChatGPT generates an image, some people now get a playable game of Snake in the loading screen. OpenAI slipped it in with Images 2.5 this month. It is not available in Work mode, which is either a serious productivity decision or the funniest line in the release notes. (help.openai.com)
