Adobe Podcast
A free browser tool from Adobe that cleans up bad audio in one click — removing noise, echo and room tone so a phone recording sounds close to studio quality.
What you'd use it for
Turning a noisy voice memo, Zoom call or bad-room interview into something that sounds close to studio-recorded, without re-recording a word of it.
- Removes background noise such as fans, traffic and air conditioning hum from a spoken-word recording
- Strips out echo and room reverb from audio recorded in an untreated space
- Processes files up to 30 minutes and 500MB on the free tier, or up to 4 hours a day and 1GB files on Firefly Pro
- Runs entirely in the browser with nothing to install
- Returns a downloadable enhanced .wav file that drops straight into any other editor
The verdict
This is the best free option for salvaging a recording that already went wrong — a phone voice memo, a noisy Zoom call, an interview taped in the wrong room. It does that one job well for nothing beyond a free Adobe sign-in, but it is a repair step, not a production tool: no recording, no editing, no publishing, and the free tier caps you at 30 minutes a file and an hour of processing a day. Anyone whose job includes fixing audio after the fact should have this bookmarked; anyone trying to produce a podcast end to end will still need something else built around it.
What it costs
| Tier | Price | For | Includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enhance Speech (free) | $0 | Anyone with a recording that sounds worse than the content deserves. | One-click noise reduction and speech enhancement in the browser, free with a free Adobe account and no payment required. |

What you need to start
- A free Adobe account, signed in before you can upload a file
- A recording under 30 minutes and 500MB to stay on the free tier
A few minutes to sign in with a free Adobe account; the enhanced file itself is usually back within ten minutes of uploading.
Your first run Upload one file (mp3, wav, aac, flac, ogg or m4a), click Enhance, and most recordings come back cleaned up within about ten minutes as a downloadable .wav.
Where it breaks
This check covered the standalone Enhance Speech tool only. Adobe Podcast also has broader recording and editing features tied to Creative Cloud accounts that were not part of this verification, so treat this entry as covering the free audio-cleanup tool specifically, not a full Adobe Podcast suite review.
Runs entirely in the browser at podcast.adobe.com/enhance — no download, no Adobe subscription required for this specific tool.
First entry in this reference. There is no previous check to compare it against.
When not to use it
Not for anyone who needs the video cleaned up too, since that sits behind the paid Firefly Pro plan. Not for anyone producing a full episode, since this only hands back one cleaned file rather than cutting, arranging or publishing anything. And not for a single interview running past 30 minutes without paying for Firefly Pro.
The single job this tool does is narrow and it does it well: upload a recording — a phone voice memo, a Zoom call, an interview recorded in a noisy room — and it strips out background noise, echo and room reverb, returning something that sounds close to a proper microphone in a treated room. It is widely cited as the best free tool for exactly this, and unlike most “free” AI tools it costs nothing to use: no Creative Cloud subscription, no card on file — just a free Adobe account to sign in with.
This is a repair tool, not a recording or editing platform. It fixes audio that already exists; it does not help you record better audio in the first place, and it does not touch video, transcripts or publishing. For those, Adobe’s broader Podcast product and Creative Cloud sit behind it, priced separately.
Where this actually saves money
- The most common use case is rescuing an interview recorded on the wrong device or in the wrong room, after the fact — the alternative is a paid audio-repair plugin or a professional pass, and this closes most of that gap for free.
- It works as a preprocessing step before other tools — clean the audio here first, then transcribe or edit elsewhere, rather than expecting one tool to do everything.
- There is no tier to upsell into for this specific feature — Enhance Speech itself stays free; any upgrade path runs through Adobe’s separate Creative Cloud and Podcast products, not this tool.
If the actual job is producing a podcast end to end — recording, multi-track editing, publishing — this is one useful step in that pipeline, not the whole pipeline. For that fuller job, compare against a dedicated podcast production tool.
Alternatives
Descript
Edit video and podcasts by editing the transcript — delete a word from the text and the matching footage or audio disappears with it.
Krisp
A desktop app that strips background noise and echo out of your voice before it reaches a call, and transcribes the conversation alongside it.
