Where it breaks
There are at least six ways to pay for this and they are not alternatives so much as layers — a per-user licence that still requires credits, a conversation price, a credit price, and an unmetered add-on at $125 a seat. Working out what a given deployment costs is a procurement exercise, not a pricing-page read. It also assumes Salesforce: for a business not already on the platform, the cost of getting data in dwarfs the cost of the agents. And an agent acting on production CRM records, with real consequences, needs a review process before it needs a licence.
Runs inside Salesforce. It is not a standalone product — it assumes your customer data, objects and permissions already live in a Salesforce org, and the agents act on those objects. Industry-specific add-ons are priced separately at $150 user/month.
First entry in this reference. There is no previous check to compare it against.
Agentforce is the largest commercial attempt at agents doing work unwatched — you review the output rather than the steps — aimed squarely at businesses that already run on Salesforce.
The logic is sound. An agent that can read the account, the open cases, the last three conversations and the entitlement is not guessing at context — it has the context, because Salesforce is where the context was already stored. That is a meaningfully different thing from a chatbot bolted onto a website.
The pricing is the hard part
Six published ways to pay, and they stack. A user licence at $5 a month still requires Flex Credits at $500 per 100,000. The unmetered route is $125 a seat. Agentforce 1 starts at $550. None of these is wrong; together they mean nobody can tell you what your deployment costs without modelling your volume first.
Who this is not for
If you are not on Salesforce, this is not the entry point to agents. The platform assumption is total. A small business wanting agents against its own customer records will get further faster with HubSpot’s Breeze agents, or by wiring a workflow in Make against records in Airtable.
The governance point
An agent allowed to act on live customer records without a human in the loop is a different risk class from a drafting assistant. Before the licensing conversation, decide what it may do unsupervised, what it must escalate, and who reads the log.
