Deel
A platform for hiring and paying contractors or full employees in over 150 countries, with AI answering local compliance and tax questions as you go.
What you'd use it for
Hiring someone in a country where you have no legal entity, without either standing one up yourself or misclassifying them as a contractor.
- Generate a country-specific employment or contractor agreement in minutes instead of drafting one with local counsel
- Run payroll and pay contractors across 150+ countries and 120+ currencies from one dashboard
- Ask a jurisdiction-specific compliance question, such as notice periods in Germany or bonus rules in Brazil, and get an answer without a lawyer
- Have Deel act as the legal employer in a country, handling local tax filings and statutory benefits on your behalf
- Co-employ US staff across all 50 states through PEO without registering your own entity in each one
The verdict
Deel earns its price when the alternative is standing up a foreign entity yourself or gambling on contractor misclassification, and for that specific problem it is fast, with a compliance AI that genuinely saves lawyer hours. It is expensive at scale, though — per-worker EOR pricing at $599/month adds up quickly for a growing team, and the cheapest tier still leaves the classification risk with you, not Deel. This suits a business hiring a handful of people in unfamiliar jurisdictions, not one building out an internal HR function.
What it costs
| Tier | Price | For | Includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Contractor management | $49 per contractor per month | Businesses paying contractors they classify themselves. | Contracts, invoicing and payment for contractors you take on the compliance liability for. |
| Contractor of Record | $325 per contractor per month | Businesses that want Deel to take on the misclassification risk. | Everything in contractor management, plus Deel legally classifying and managing the relationship on your behalf. |
| US PEO | $125 per US employee per month | US companies co-employing staff without setting up their own entity in every state. | Co-employment across all 50 states, with benefits (healthcare, dental, vision, 401(k)) included. |
| Employer of Record (EOR) | $599 per employee per month | Hiring a full-time employee in a country where you have no legal entity. | Full legal employment — contracts, payroll, benefits, tax filings and compliance — handled entirely by Deel as the employer of record. |

What you need to start
- A signed Master Service Agreement with Deel before any contract or payroll run can start
- Each worker's tax form (W-9 or W-8BEN) and ID on file before their first payment
- Your own registered US business entity for the PEO tier — Deel co-employs staff there, it does not replace incorporation
A contractor is usually onboarded within about five days of signing the Master Service Agreement; a full Employer of Record hire closes in two to five business days in straightforward countries, stretching to several weeks wherever a work permit is required.
Your first run The first concrete result is a signed agreement and an activated pay schedule, typically within about five days of your company signing Deel's Master Service Agreement and the worker submitting their tax form (W-9 for US-based, W-8BEN otherwise).
Where it breaks
A separate 'Find talent' recruiting add-on is priced at $14 per worker per month and was not included as a core tier here since it is a sourcing service, not a payroll/employment option. All prices above are per-worker, not flat platform fees — the total bill scales directly with headcount.
Browser-based dashboard; contractors and employees interact through their own portal for invoices, time off and documents. No desktop app.

When not to use it
Not for a business that already has, or is willing to set up, its own entity in the countries it is hiring in — that route gets cheaper than Deel once you are past a handful of hires there. Not for anyone hoping to hand off the classification decision itself; the $49/month contractor tier still leaves misclassification liability with you.
The problem Deel solves is specific and expensive to solve any other way: hiring someone in a country where you have no legal entity normally means either standing up that entity yourself — months of paperwork and ongoing compliance cost — or accepting the legal risk of treating an employee as a contractor because it is administratively easier. Deel sells the middle path, acting as the local employer of record so you get the person without the entity.
The price ladder above maps directly to how much legal risk Deel is absorbing. Managing a contractor you already classify correctly is cheapest at $49/month; having Deel take on that classification risk (Contractor of Record) roughly sextuples the price; full employment through Deel’s Employer of Record entity, with all the payroll tax and benefits obligations that implies, runs $599 per employee per month.
Reading the pricing honestly
This is per-worker pricing, not a flat subscription — ten contractors on the base tier is $490/month before anything else. That scales sensibly (you are not paying for headcount you do not have) but it means the “cost of Deel” question only has an answer once you know how many people, in which category, you are actually hiring.
Where AI shows up
The compliance layer — answering “can I pay a bonus in this country without triggering X” or “what’s the notice period in Germany” — is where Deel’s AI does real work, because that information genuinely changes by jurisdiction and getting it wrong is the whole risk this product exists to remove.
