Where it breaks

The Pro tier was marked 'Coming soon' on the pricing page at last check — treat that price as provisional rather than something you can buy today.

Web and mobile apps; 12,000+ bank and payroll integrations. Marketed to firms serving multiple clients as well as directly to businesses.

First entry in this reference. There is no previous check to compare it against.

Digits is bookkeeping software that treats “reconcile the books” as a continuous background job rather than a monthly ritual — transactions get categorised and matched as they land, not batched up for a bookkeeper to process weeks later. The company reports a 96.5% auto-booking accuracy rate, which is the number that matters most for whether you can trust it to run unattended.

The “Ask Digits” assistant sits on top of that live ledger, answering questions about cash position or spend in a category in plain language, rather than making you build a report first.

What separates the tiers

Essentials covers the core loop — bookkeeping, reconciliation, invoicing, bill pay — and is a complete product for a solo operator. Core adds dimensional accounting (tracking revenue and cost by project, location or department rather than one flat chart of accounts) and custom reporting, which is the point most growing businesses actually need it. Pro, still rolling out at last check, adds budget-vs-actuals tracking for businesses with an internal finance function watching against a plan.

Compared to the incumbents

Against QuickBooks or Xero, the real difference is what’s automated by default rather than what’s possible with add-ons — Digits is built AI-first, where the incumbents bolt AI features onto a much older core. If you’re already deep in QuickBooks with an accountant who knows it well, the switching cost is a real factor to weigh against the automation gain.
