Where it breaks

The pricing above covers Work Management only. monday CRM, monday Service and monday Dev are separate products, each sold on its own per-seat schedule, and easy to confuse with Work Management because the branding looks identical across all four.

Browser-based, with iOS and Android apps. monday.com also sells separate CRM, Service, and Dev products with their own pricing ladders — the tiers above are for Work Management, the general-purpose board product most small businesses start with.

First entry in this reference. There is no previous check to compare it against.

monday.com started as a project board and has spent several years quietly becoming a database with a friendlier face — which is the same lineage Airtable comes from, arriving at a similar destination from the opposite direction: Airtable feels like a spreadsheet that grew structure, monday feels like a project board that grew a database underneath it.

The free tier caps out fast — two seats, three boards — which is enough to build one real workflow and decide whether the automations feature is worth paying for. Basic and Standard are both aimed at teams past that point, with Standard adding the automation depth (250 runs a month, five AI tools) that turns a board from a place you look at into a place that updates itself.

What the AI actually does

Ask a board in plain language to build an automation — “when a status changes to Done, notify the assignee’s manager” — and it drafts the recipe rather than making you find the right trigger and action blocks yourself. It also drafts status update summaries across a project, which is the part that saves the most recurring time for a team lead.

The automations run without anyone reopening the board

Once an automation is built, it runs on the trigger it was given — a status change, a date, a new item — without anyone reopening the board. That puts it in the same category as Klaviyo’s send automations or a Make scenario: work happening because a condition was met, not because someone asked.
