Where it breaks
Monthly minutes are shared across every meeting Otter joins for you that month, including ones you forgot it was set to auto-join — it is worth checking the auto-join calendar setting before assuming the free tier's 300 minutes will last.
Web app, iOS and Android apps, and browser extensions that join Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams calls automatically.
First entry in this reference. There is no previous check to compare it against.
Otter was the first mainstream tool to make “the AI just joins the call” feel normal rather than strange, and it has kept that first-mover position mostly by staying narrowly good at one thing: live transcription that is accurate enough to trust and fast enough that a summary is waiting in your inbox before the next meeting starts.
The free tier’s 300 minutes cover roughly a meeting a day for someone in back-to-back calls, which is enough to test whether a business actually wants this running in the background. Pro’s jump to 1,200 minutes and 90-minute meeting support is the tier most solo operators and small teams settle on.
It joins the meeting whether you remembered or not
Once you turn on calendar auto-join, Otter does not wait to be asked — it joins the meeting, transcribes, and sends the summary whether or not you remembered it was scheduled to. That is the trigger-without-you behaviour that separates it from a tool you actively open each time, like ChatGPT or Claude in a browser tab.
Where it stops
Otter produces a transcript and a summary; it does not act on the action items it extracts. If a meeting decision needs to become a task in a project board automatically, that connection runs through Otter’s Zapier or API integration into something like Make — Otter itself only watches, listens and reports.
