Poe
One subscription and one inbox for chatting with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and dozens of other AI models, so you stop paying for and switching between separate apps.
What you'd use it for
Trying ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and other AI models against your own work under one subscription before committing to any single one.
- Chat with GPT-5.5, Claude Opus 4.7, Gemini 3.5 Flash and dozens of other text models from one account
- Generate images with models like FLUX and Ideogram, and video with Runway and Luma Labs, without a separate subscription to each
- Build a custom bot that chains several models and prompts together
- Run the same question past several models side by side to compare their answers
- Start a group chat where other people and multiple AI bots share one thread
The verdict
Poe earns its keep in the window before you know which model does the job best — one login, one bill, dozens of models to try against real work. The points system means the monthly allowance you're sold doesn't map cleanly onto a number of conversations, so budgeting takes a week of real use to learn. It's a comparison tool and a stopgap rather than a long-term home — once you've settled on a favourite model, the vendor's own app usually serves you better and gets new features first.

Where it breaks
Poe bills usage in points rather than a flat message count, and different models consume points at very different rates — a message to a frontier reasoning model can cost many times what a message to a lighter model costs, so the monthly point allowance is not a reliable proxy for 'how many conversations you get.'
Browser, desktop apps for Mac and Windows, and mobile apps for iOS and Android.

When not to use it
Not for someone who has already decided ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini is their tool — paying that vendor directly gets first access to new features and skips the points arithmetic. Also a poor fit for anyone who wants a predictable monthly bill, since usage is metered in points that vary wildly by model rather than a flat message count.
Poe’s whole reason to exist is that no single AI lab has the best model for every job, and paying for ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini as three separate $20-a-month subscriptions to find out which one is best is wasteful. Poe puts them behind one login and one bill, with a points system standing in for the pricing plumbing each vendor uses on its own site.
The catch is that the points system, not the dollar price, is what actually rations your usage. A message to a frontier reasoning model can burn through far more points than a message to a lighter, faster one, so “660,000 points a month” on Premium doesn’t translate to a fixed number of conversations — it depends entirely on which models you pick. Worth running a week of real usage before assuming a tier will cover you.
Who this actually suits
Someone comparing models for a specific task — which one writes better cold emails, which one handles a messy spreadsheet more reliably — gets real value from having all of them in one place. Someone who already knows they only want Claude or only want ChatGPT is better off paying that vendor directly: you’ll get first access to new features and no points arithmetic to think about.
Against going direct
The individual vendors are still the better buy if you know what you want: their native apps read your files more deeply, and neither Anthropic nor OpenAI treats Poe as a first-class surface for new capabilities — new features and models often land there weeks after they land on the vendor’s own product. Poe earns its subscription in the exploration phase, not as a permanent home once you’ve settled on a favourite.
Alternatives
Claude
Anthropic's AI assistant, available in a browser tab and — the part that matters here — as a desktop app that can read the files on your own machine and reach the systems you connect to it.
ChatGPT
OpenAI's assistant in a browser tab, a desktop app and a phone app, where you ask questions, draft text, and hand it files or spreadsheets to work through.
Google Gemini
Google's assistant, usable on its own and also inside Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Drive, so it can draft and summarise against files you already keep in Google.
OpenRouter
A single account and bill for calling hundreds of AI models from different providers, so switching models doesn't mean signing a new contract.
