What you'd use it for

Turning a process you already know how to do into a shareable, step-by-step guide with screenshots and instructions, without writing any of it yourself.

  • Captures a screenshot and an auto-written instruction for each click as you perform a workflow, with no manual typing
  • Blurs or redacts sensitive on-screen data, such as customer records, before a guide is shared outside the team
  • Exports a finished guide as a PDF, Markdown or HTML file, or shares it as a link or embed
  • Replays a saved guide as an in-app Guide Me walkthrough that highlights the next click for someone following along live
  • Extracts data from a captured workflow and turns the repeatable steps into an automation on Pro and Enterprise plans

The verdict

Tango is good at exactly one thing — turning a process you already know into a skimmable, screenshot-led guide without you typing a word of it — and it does that well enough that documenting a workflow stops feeling like a chore. The cost shows up the moment you want anything past the free tier's five shared workflows, since branded exports, desktop capture and version history all sit behind a Pro seat starting at $22/user/month for one or two people. It suits an ops or support team documenting the same internal software repeatedly, less a solo founder who needs one walkthrough and won't be back.

What it costs

Tier Price For Includes
Free $0 One person documenting a process occasionally. 5 shared workflows, browser capture, link and embed sharing, up to 10 users per workspace, no credit card required.
Pro (1-2 users) $22/user/month billed annually, or $26/user/month billed monthly A small team documenting processes regularly. Unlimited workflows, branded exports, voice and video embeds, browser and desktop capture, 14-day version history, export to PDF/Markdown/HTML.
Pro (3+ users / Team) $15/user/month billed annually, or $20/user/month billed monthly A team of three or more standardising process documentation. The same Pro feature set at a lower per-seat price once the team crosses 3 users.
Enterprise Custom pricing Larger organisations needing compliance and security controls. Automatic PII detection and redaction, multi-path workflows, 365-day version history and audit logs, SSO, SCIM, team onboarding.

What you need to start

  • A Chrome or Microsoft Edge browser for the free browser-extension capture
  • A Pro plan, from $15/user/month, to use the desktop capture app instead of just the browser
  • Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions on Mac, or IT approval on a managed Windows device, to install the desktop app

Under a minute to install the extension; a finished first guide as soon as you finish the workflow itself, since Tango captures steps in the background as you click.

Your first run Installing the Chrome or Edge extension takes under a minute, and Tango starts capturing a screenshot and an auto-written instruction for each click the moment you hit record, so the first finished guide is ready as soon as you finish the workflow you were already about to do.

Where it breaks

The vendor is mid-rebrand: tango.us 301-redirects to tango.ai across the site, including the pricing page. Bookmarks, integrations or documentation referencing the old domain may need updating; nothing about the product or pricing itself appears to have changed alongside the domain move.

Browser extension and desktop capture app for recording; the vendor's own site now redirects tango.us to tango.ai, so expect to land on the .ai domain regardless of which link you follow — the product itself is unchanged.

When not to use it

Not for anyone who only needs to explain a process once and move on — recording a two-minute video is faster than learning a new tool for a single guide. Also a poor fit if your work happens outside the browser and you're staying on the free tier, since desktop capture requires a paid Pro plan.

Tango solves the “walk me through it” problem that eats an afternoon every time someone asks how to do something in a piece of software you use daily. Click through the process once with the browser extension or desktop app running, and it captures each step as a screenshot with an automatically written instruction underneath — “Click here,” “Enter your email,” “Select this option” — turning a live demo into a permanent, shareable guide without you writing a word of it.

Where it beats a screen recording

A video walkthrough has to be watched start to finish; a Tango guide can be skimmed, and each step is a static image with text rather than a moment you have to scrub to find. For onboarding a new hire on internal software, or writing customer-facing help documentation, that skimmability is the actual value — most people reading a how-to guide want to jump to the step they’re stuck on, not rewatch three minutes of video.

The domain move

Worth noting directly: the vendor is rebranding from tango.us to tango.ai, and every link on the older domain now redirects. Nothing about pricing or the product itself changed with the move, based on what’s visible post-redirect, but any saved link or integration pointing at the old domain should be updated.

Pro vs. Scribe

Against Scribe, the main alternative in this exact category, the comparison worth running in a trial is output polish and how well each tool’s automatic redaction catches sensitive on-screen data before you share a guide externally — a real risk with either tool if you’re capturing a workflow inside a system with customer data visible.
