Wix
A website builder that will assemble a whole site from a few answers about your business, then keep generating the copy, images and sections you ask for.
What you'd use it for
Getting a real business website live this week by answering a few questions and letting Wix generate the pages, instead of building each one by hand.
- Answer a few questions about the business and get a full multi-page site back with matching layout, images and copy already built
- Ask the built-in AI agent to add a new section, banner or About Us block to an existing page without editing it by hand
- Generate original images, auto-enhance photos or remove a background without leaving the editor
- Get AI-suggested SEO title tags, meta descriptions and an on-page issues checklist for each page
- Draft marketing emails and social copy through the built-in AI marketing tools
The verdict
Wix is a hosted website builder with AI stapled onto the first draft and the ongoing editing, so most of what you are paying for is the platform, storage and lock-in rather than the AI itself. The generated draft usually gets the structure right and the copy passably generic, which is enough to skip a blank page but not enough to skip a rewrite. It suits a business that wants a site live this week and is fine staying on Wix indefinitely, since there is no route off the platform later.
What it costs

What you need to start
- A Wix account (email signup; no credit card needed for the free tier)
- A modern browser — Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari — on Windows 10 or later, macOS 12 or later, or ChromeOS
- A paid plan before a custom domain can be connected, since the free tier only gets a Wix subdomain
A working draft site in minutes; a site on your own domain with the copy actually rewritten is closer to an afternoon.
Your first run Describe the business in a prompt or two and Wix generates a draft site — pages, images and copy — typically within a few minutes; what comes back is a starting layout to rewrite, not a finished site.
Where it breaks
Every published price is the yearly-subscription rate; monthly billing costs more and is not shown as the default. The free domain is free for one year and renews at Wix's standard rate afterwards. There is no meaningful way to export a Wix site, so the platform choice is close to permanent for the life of that site. And the AI-generated first draft is a starting point — the copy reads like AI-generated copy until somebody rewrites it, and your customers can tell.
Entirely hosted by Wix — there is no export. The site lives on their infrastructure, editing happens in their browser editor, and leaving means rebuilding somewhere else. All plans come with a 14-day money-back guarantee.
First entry in this reference. There is no previous check to compare it against.
When not to use it
Not for anyone who might need to move the site off Wix later — there is no export, so the platform choice is close to permanent. Not for a business whose site needs real logic — a booking calculator, a portal, backend behaviour — rather than pages and forms. And not for anyone expecting the AI draft to be publish-ready; it still needs a rewrite before it represents the business well.
Answer a few questions about what your business does, and twenty seconds later there is a whole site: pages, structure, images, copy. For a business that has been meaning to sort the website out for two years, that is a genuinely useful shove.
The catch is that a generated site is a draft with a domain attached. The structure is usually right and the words are usually generic, and generic words on a small business website are the difference between a visitor who calls and a visitor who closes the tab. Treat the AI output as scaffolding and spend the saved afternoon rewriting the three pages that matter.
Reading the price
Every figure Wix publishes is the yearly rate. Monthly costs more. The included domain is free for the first year and then renews at the normal price, which is the line most people forget when budgeting year two.
The thing to decide before you start
There is no export. A Wix site is a Wix site for as long as it exists, and moving later means rebuilding. That is not unusual for hosted builders and it is worth saying plainly, because it makes this a longer commitment than the monthly fee suggests.
Where something else fits better
If the thing you need has logic in it — a portal, a calculator, an internal tool — a site builder is the wrong shape and Lovable is the right one. If you are selling products at volume, Shopify Sidekick sits on a platform built for commerce rather than a commerce feature added to a site builder.
