Where it breaks
AI ticket auto-resolution is not available on the base Support Team tier at all — it starts at Suite Team, which is roughly 3x the entry price. A team pricing purely by the Support tier's headline figure will not get the AI capability the product is named for.
Browser-based, with mobile apps for agents and a widget embeddable on any website or product.
First entry in this reference. There is no previous check to compare it against.
Zendesk’s advantage is the one every incumbent shares: it is already the help desk at more companies than any competitor, so the AI layer arrives as an upgrade to something already in daily use rather than a new tool a support team has to learn from nothing.
At Suite Team, the AI agent handles tickets end to end where it can — reading the question, checking the knowledge base, replying, and closing the ticket without a human touching it. A human reviews outcomes and escalations, not each ticket’s resolution path.
The tier trap worth naming
Support Team, the entry-level and cheapest option, does not include any of the AI ticket-resolution features — those start at Suite Team, roughly three times the price. Someone comparing tiers by name and headline price alone can easily land on Support Team expecting AI and not get it.
Where it fits
Against Intercom Fin, the pricing philosophy differs more than the capability: Zendesk bills per agent seat regardless of how busy the AI is that month, while Fin bills per ticket it actually resolves. A support team with light, predictable volume may prefer Zendesk’s flat seat cost; one with spiky volume may prefer paying only for resolutions Fin actually closes.
