Where it breaks
Zoho's pricing page itself — including the ?country=US and /us/ variants attempted for this entry — still renders INR (Indian Rupees) by IP-based geo-pricing rather than a broken toggle. The USD figures above aren't a conversion of that INR price; they're the vendor's own published dollar rate, read from the same pricing-data file (zohowebstatic.com/sites/zweb/json/pricing/desk-pricing-val.json) that drives the page's own currency switcher, matched to the annual-billing tier shown. Light-agent seats (for internal staff who only need to view tickets) are priced separately at $6/agent/month on Professional and Enterprise, from the same source.
Browser-based, with mobile apps for agents. Deep integration across the rest of the Zoho suite (CRM, SalesIQ) if you already use it.
First entry in this reference. There is no previous check to compare it against.
Zoho Desk earns its “leading budget help desk” reputation less from any single feature than from the fact that it is priced meaningfully below Zendesk while covering most of the same ground — ticketing, a knowledge base, live chat, and now an AI layer (Zia) doing the first-pass work agents used to do by hand.
Zia’s job is narrow and useful: reading an incoming ticket for sentiment, suggesting knowledge-base articles the agent might paste in, and on the Professional tier and above, drafting responses using Zoho’s own model or a connected OpenAI key. It’s assistive rather than autonomous — a human agent still owns the send button on every reply, which is the right default for support but worth knowing before assuming Zia handles tickets end to end.
The free tier is a real option, briefly
Three free agent seats is enough for a genuinely small support team, but the free plan disappears the moment you upgrade — those three seats aren’t preserved, they’re replaced, and the jump to Standard’s five-user minimum is where most growing teams actually land.
Against the alternatives
Against Chatbase, the split is inbox versus chatbot: Chatbase is a standalone AI chatbot you embed on a site, while Zoho Desk is the full ticketing system a human support team runs from, with AI features woven into that workflow rather than replacing it. Against Zendesk, the honest read from the market is that Zoho Desk wins on price at comparable feature depth, and loses a little on polish and third-party app ecosystem size.
