What you'd use it for

Turning a spreadsheet or PDF export into a finished dashboard, report or slide deck without building the charts by hand.

  • Upload a CSV, Excel file or PDF and generate a dashboard, report or slide deck in under a minute
  • Connect live data sources (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Google Sheets, HubSpot, Stripe, Google Analytics and 40+ others) so dashboards refresh with one click
  • Ask in plain English for a specific chart type — geo map, heatmap, treemap, sankey, funnel — and have it built without configuring an axis
  • Click a data point on a dashboard to filter every chart on the page at once
  • Save a dashboard layout as a template and re-apply it to a new dataset next month

The verdict

Bricks is genuinely fast at the one thing it's built for — point it at a spreadsheet or PDF and it produces a presentable dashboard or slide deck in under a minute, styled well enough to send to a client without touching it further. The catch is the AI message allowance, which every generate, edit or add-a-chart action counts against, so the free tier's 20 messages run out during ordinary iteration rather than heavy use, and Premium's 200 only comfortably covers one person's regular reporting. It suits someone who wants a finished report from data they already have, not someone who wants to live inside a spreadsheet refining formulas — for that, Sourcetable is the closer fit.

What it costs

Tier Price For Includes

What you need to start

  • A free account (email or Google sign-in, no credit card)
  • Google Chrome, another Chromium browser, or Safari — Firefox isn't supported
  • A CSV, Excel file or PDF to import, or a connected data source such as a database, Google Sheets, or one of its 40+ integrations

Ten minutes or so to sign up and import a first file; a working dashboard typically follows in the same sitting — one user reported sending a client a dashboard 20 minutes after starting.

Your first run Import a spreadsheet or PDF, then use Generate -> Dashboard & Report; the vendor's own walkthrough produces a dashboard in seconds, and one customer reports sending a client a finished dashboard within 20 minutes of signing up.

Where it breaks

"AI messages" are the metered unit across every tier — each prompt to build, edit or add a chart counts as one, so a heavy iteration session on a single dashboard can burn through a monthly allowance faster than the page count of dashboards produced would suggest.

First entry in this reference. There is no previous check to compare it against.

When not to use it

Not for anyone who needs to build or debug formulas interactively, or whose reporting habit runs to dozens of small revisions per dashboard — the AI message meter will outrun the free and even the Premium tier before the report count does. Also skip it if your team is on Firefox, which Bricks doesn't support.

Bricks turns a spreadsheet export into a finished dashboard or report without anyone opening a chart-building tool by hand: upload the CSV, Excel file or PDF, describe what you want, and it produces the visualisation, the tables and a short written analysis alongside it — a process the vendor pitches at 30 to 60 seconds.

The comparison the site draws explicitly is against building the same thing manually in Excel, or against a heavyweight BI tool like Tableau or Power BI that most people using spreadsheet-sized data do not need the complexity of.

What “AI Messages” actually meters

Every tier’s real constraint is the monthly AI message allowance — each prompt to generate, edit or add something counts as one, regardless of how large the resulting dashboard is. Free’s 20 messages is enough to evaluate the tool, not to run a reporting workflow; Premium’s 200 is where regular use starts to make sense for one person.

Against the similar tools

Set next to Sourcetable, the split is in what each is optimised for: Sourcetable behaves like an AI-assisted spreadsheet you work inside continuously, where Bricks is closer to a report generator — you feed it data and get a polished, presentable output, then customise from there rather than building formula by formula.
