What you'd use it for

Describing what you want done to a spreadsheet, in plain English, and getting the formula, pivot, or chart built for you instead of building it yourself.

  • Turn a plain-English request into a spreadsheet formula, pivot table, or chart without writing the formula yourself
  • Pull live data into the sheet from connected databases, APIs and SaaS tools such as Postgres, HubSpot, Shopify, Stripe, Google Ads and Google Analytics
  • Upload and analyse XLSX, CSV, TSV, JSON and PDF files directly, with formula parity to Excel and Google Sheets underneath
  • Run Python, SQL and statistics libraries such as Pandas and scikit-learn on your data without writing code
  • Hand off multi-step analysis to an autonomous agent that connects to outside systems and acts on your data from inside the spreadsheet

The verdict

Sourcetable is a genuine spreadsheet, not a chat window bolted onto one — an AI analyst that writes the formula, cleans the column, or builds the chart you describe in plain English. It earns its keep on real analysis work, connecting live data from tools like HubSpot or Stripe and asking it to model or summarise, rather than one-off charts you could build by hand in five minutes. The catch is the credit meter — every AI action spends credits, so the free tier survives a demo but not a working week, and Pro exists mainly so you don't run dry mid-analysis. It suits an operator who already knows roughly what they want out of the data and would rather describe it than build it formula by formula.

What it costs

Tier Price For Includes
Regular $0/user/month Trying it out on a small dataset. 50 credits/mo, AI spreadsheet assistant, smart formulas and pivots, unlimited data connectors.
Pro $29/user/month An analyst or operator running this regularly. 2,000 credits/mo (resets monthly), everything in Regular plus deep research.
Max $100/user/month Heavy, model-intensive analysis work. 6,000 credits/mo, everything in Pro plus the highest model intelligence tier.
Enterprise Custom pricing Organisations with education or enterprise requirements. Volume terms; education discounts are handled separately via university email signup.

What you need to start

  • An email address to create an account — no credit card is needed for the free plan or trial
  • A spreadsheet, CSV file, or login to one of its connected data sources (Postgres, HubSpot, Shopify, Stripe, etc.) to actually analyse

A couple of minutes to a working free account with just an email and no credit card, though the free tier's 50 monthly credits mean anything beyond a one-off test pushes you toward Pro quickly.

Your first run Upload a spreadsheet or CSV, type what you want in plain English, and the first formula, cleaned column or chart appears in the same chat reply — there's no separate build step to learn first.

Where it breaks

Pricing is credit-metered rather than seat-flat — a $29/mo Pro seat still runs out of credits under heavy use, and extra credits are sold separately ($10 to $200 top-ups, at $0.015-$0.020 per credit depending on volume).

First entry in this reference. There is no previous check to compare it against.

When not to use it

Skip it if you want analysis to run itself — Sourcetable only acts when you ask, so it's no replacement for a dashboard that refreshes on a schedule. Skip it too for light, occasional spreadsheet work, since paying per AI action makes casual use costlier than just writing the formula in Google Sheets yourself.

Sourcetable is a spreadsheet with an analyst sitting inside it. You describe what you want — clean this column, build a model from these numbers, chart the trend — and it writes the formulas, builds the pivot, or generates the chart, in a grid that still looks and behaves like a spreadsheet underneath.

The credit system is the thing to understand before picking a tier. Every AI action — a formula, a cleanup pass, a chart — spends credits, and the free tier’s 50 credits a month disappear fast on anything beyond a quick test. Pro’s 2,000 credits a month is the realistic starting point for someone using this as a working tool rather than a demo.

Where it sits next to the alternatives

Against Airtable, the split is structural: Airtable is a database with a spreadsheet face, built for records that other software reads and writes to. Sourcetable is a spreadsheet with an analyst attached, built for someone who wants answers out of numbers without writing formulas by hand.

It connects to outside data sources, but it does not run unattended. Every analysis starts because you asked for it, which is the honest reading of “agent” here: assistant, not autopilot.
