Webflow
A visual site builder with full control over the underlying design, now able to generate a first draft of a page or its copy from a written prompt.
What you'd use it for
Building a real, custom-coded business website without hiring a developer, using a written prompt to get past the blank page.
- Generate a first draft of a full page — layout, sections and rough copy — from a single written prompt
- Generate new page sections from a prompt that match the site's existing design system (beta)
- Run a sitewide SEO and AEO audit and get AI-written fixes to apply
- Ask Webflow AI to build React code components that you then edit visually
- Have Webflow AI create and structure CMS Collection items instead of entering them by hand
The verdict
Webflow earns its reputation as the visual builder that hands back real, exportable code rather than a locked-in template, and the AI prompt genuinely shortens the blank-page problem for a first draft. The pricing is built for teams, though, and it runs on two meters at once -- a site plan buys hosting and features for one site, while a separate Workspace plan governs collaborators and AI credits. The AI itself is not gated. The free Starter Workspace carries 200 credits a month and they pool across every site in it, free ones included, so you can judge the AI before paying anything. What you pay for is publishing, meaning a custom domain and a real CMS. For a single-site owner who wants both design control and a proper CMS, Premium at $25 a month is where the tool starts working as advertised; anyone budgeting off the Basic price alone will be caught out.
What it costs
| Tier | Price | For | Includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $0 | Exploring and experimenting before building a real site. | A Webflow.io subdomain, 2 static pages, 1 GB bandwidth, limited CMS. |
| Basic | $15/month, billed yearly, per site | A simple site that doesn't need a content management system. | Custom domain, 300 static pages, 10 GB bandwidth, unlimited form submissions, password protection. |
| Premium | $25/month, billed yearly, per site | A content-heavy site with real traffic and CMS needs. | Everything in Basic, plus the full Webflow CMS, code components, site search, form file uploads. |
| Team | $2,500/month, annual contract required | A growing organisation running multiple sites under one workspace. | Everything in Premium across the workspace, localisation, AI answer-engine agents, publishing workflows, activity logs and API access. |
| Enterprise | Custom, arranged with sales | Organisations needing full governance and custom configuration. | Everything in Team, plus custom roles, advanced governance, secure integrations, a dedicated account manager. |

What you need to start
- A Webflow account signed up by email; no credit card needed for the free Starter site or free Workspace plan
- Nothing beyond the free Starter Workspace to start using the AI, since it carries 200 AI credits a month pooled across every site in the Workspace including free ones. A paid Workspace buys more credits rather than access -- Core 300 a month, Growth 400
- A paid Premium site plan ($25 a month) if the site needs its own CMS, code components, site search or file uploads on forms
A few minutes to sign up and get a free AI-generated first draft, with the AI usable straight away on the free Workspace's 200 monthly credits. What takes longer is the design work the AI hands you a starting point for, and what costs money is publishing on your own domain.
Your first run Signing up is free and takes a couple of minutes; typing a prompt into the AI site builder on your dashboard produces a structured first draft of sections, layout and rough copy in the same session, ready to edit visually the way you'd edit anything built by hand.
Where it breaks
Webflow prices per site, and a separate Workspace and seat pricing structure exists alongside these site plans for teams collaborating in the editor -- the two pricing families appear on the same page and are easy to conflate. The AI runs on the Workspace meter rather than the site one: 200 credits a month on the free Starter Workspace, 300 on Core, 400 on Growth, pooled across every site in the Workspace and topped up for a separate fee. So the AI is available before you pay anything, and paying buys volume. The Team tier's $2,500/month figure is a genuinely large jump from Premium; it is priced for organisations, not a single growing site.
Browser-based design tool; no desktop app. Site plans are billed per site, so a marketing agency running several client sites is paying for each one separately, on top of whatever workspace-level plan its team uses to collaborate.

When not to use it
Not for someone who wants a finished site without ever opening a visual editor — the AI draft still needs a builder's eye to fix it. Not for an agency running several client sites without doing the maths first, since Webflow charges per site and again for the workspace seats a team needs to work in them.
Webflow’s argument has always been that “visual” and “custom” don’t have to be opposites — you drag and drop, but what comes out is real, exportable code rather than a template with the knobs turned. That trade-off, more control for more complexity, is still the whole story, and the AI layer changes less of it than the marketing implies.
What the AI actually saves you
Page generation from a prompt gives you a structured starting point — sections, rough copy, a layout — that you then edit visually, the same way you’d edit anything else built by hand in Webflow. It shortens the blank-page problem. It does not remove the need to understand Webflow’s own design system once you want to change something the AI generated.
Where the money goes
- Basic to Premium buys the CMS — the difference between a handful of static pages and a site that can hold a blog, a product catalogue, or case studies that update without touching code.
- Team and Enterprise are not “more site,” they’re “more organisation” — the features are about managing several sites and several people, not building a bigger single page.
Against Framer and Bolt.new
Framer is the closer comparison: another visual builder with AI generation, generally seen as faster to start in and slightly less capable at the deep-customisation end where Webflow has a decade’s head start. Bolt.new is a different category entirely — it writes and runs actual application code from a prompt, useful when the thing you’re building is a web app with logic, not a marketing site.
Alternatives
Framer
A visual website builder that publishes straight from the editor, with AI generating a first-pass layout and copy from a written prompt.
Bolt.new
Describe a full-stack web app in plain English and it writes and runs the actual code in your browser, with one click to deploy it live.
Wix
A website builder that will assemble a whole site from a few answers about your business, then keep generating the copy, images and sections you ask for.
Squarespace
A design-led website builder where AI drafts your page layout, blog posts, and product copy alongside a human-built template.
