Adobe Firefly
Generates images, video and audio trained on licensed content, positioned as the commercially safe option for brand and marketing work.
What you'd use it for
Producing on-brand images, short video clips and voiceover that a legal or brand team will sign off on without a copyright question.
- Generate images from a text prompt, a sketch, or a reference image, in styles from photorealistic to pixel art
- Fill in, remove, or expand part of an existing image without redrawing the rest, using Generative Fill and Expand
- Generate short video clips from a text prompt or a starting image, in a chosen resolution and aspect ratio
- Turn a script into spoken voiceover in a chosen voice, and translate a video into 20-plus languages
- Remove a background or an unwanted object from a photo in a few clicks
The verdict
Firefly earns its place when the output has to survive a legal or brand-safety review — the licensed-training story is the actual product, not a marketing line. It trades creative range for that certainty, which is why a campaign chasing a distinctive look still reaches for Midjourney instead. The credit system is generous on paper and tight in practice once a team starts iterating on one campaign rather than generating once and moving on, so it suits marketing and design teams already inside the Adobe ecosystem more than solo creators.

What you need to start
- An Adobe account (the free tier needs no credit card)
- A current browser — Chrome, Edge or Firefox 113 or later, with JavaScript enabled
A few minutes to a working free account and a first generated image; no card needed until a paid tier's credit ceiling is reached.
Your first run Signing in with a free Adobe account, no card required, gives 25 generative credits a month; a first text-to-image render finishes in under a minute of describing the prompt.
Where it breaks
firefly.adobe.com/plans is a JavaScript single-page app with no pricing figures in its static HTML; the figures above come from adobe.com/products/firefly.html instead, which rendered in USD on this check.
Runs in the browser; Firefly-powered generation is also embedded inside Photoshop, Adobe Express and Acrobat rather than existing only as a standalone app.
First entry in this reference. There is no previous check to compare it against.
When not to use it
Not for solo creators chasing a distinctive visual signature — Midjourney serves that job better — or for teams doing heavy revision cycles on one campaign, where every regeneration counts against the same monthly credit allowance.
Firefly’s whole pitch is provenance: every image comes out of a model trained on Adobe Stock and licensed or public-domain content, which means a business can put the output in front of a client or a legal team without the usual “where did this come from” conversation that follows a generic image generator.
The trade-off shows up immediately next to Midjourney: Firefly’s images are more reliably usable, less distinctive to look at. Neither is wrong — a brand campaign chasing a specific visual style still often reaches for Midjourney; anything with commercial-use certainty as a requirement reaches for Firefly instead.
What the credit system actually buys
Every tier above Free is a monthly allowance of generative credits, shared across image, video and audio generation. Firefly Standard’s 2,000 credits stretch to about 20 five-second video clips a month; Firefly Pro doubles that to 4,000 credits, and Firefly Pro Plus doubles again to 10,000. It sounds generous until a team starts iterating heavily on a single campaign — regeneration counts the same as a first attempt.
A pricing caveat worth flagging
Firefly’s own plans page (firefly.adobe.com/plans) renders its tiers through JavaScript with nothing readable in the static page, so the figures above are sourced from Adobe’s main product page for Firefly instead, which listed the same tiers in US dollars.
