Speak Ai
Transcribes interviews and calls, then finds the themes that repeat across a whole batch of recordings rather than just one.
What you'd use it for
Finding what keeps coming up across a stack of interview or call recordings, without rereading every transcript by hand
- Upload a batch of interview or call recordings and see which themes and keywords repeat across all of them, not just one
- Ask AI Chat a question like how many people mentioned pricing across an entire transcript library and get an answer instead of rereading transcripts
- Score the sentiment of a call automatically and flag which parts sounded negative
- Pull transcripts and analysis into your own tools through the API, MCP server, or Zapier instead of only using the web app
- Transcribe and translate recordings in more than 100 languages
The verdict
Speak Ai earns its keep once you have a library of recordings to compare, not a single call to caption -- the theme and sentiment layer on top of transcription is what a plain notetaker skips. The free trial removes the money question early, needing no card and giving two credits to test transcription, AI Chat, and theme detection together. Where it costs you is predictability -- the Pay as You Go tier prices by the hour, the character, and the chat, so the real monthly number only shows up on your first invoice, and Pro's 25 hours a month can go fast for an agency running client interviews every week.
What it costs
| Tier | Price | For | Includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pay as You Go | $2.00/hr transcription (standard), $12.00/100K characters translation, AI chat from $0.08/chat | API builders, consultants, and occasional users who don't want a subscription. | 100+ languages, API/MCP/CLI access, webhooks, Zapier, embeds. |
| Pro | $20/user/mo (or $240/user/yr billed annually) | Researchers, analysts, consultants, sales and ops teams, up to 5 users. | 25 credits/user/mo (~25 hours standard transcription), 10GB storage, unlimited data retention, AI chat, shared team library, automations. |

What you need to start
- An email address or Google account to sign up -- no credit card is needed for the free trial
- A card on file once the trial ends, to keep using Pay as You Go
- Node.js 18 or later, only if you're using the MCP server or CLI instead of the web app
A few minutes to create a free account and use the 7-day trial's two credits; a one-hour recording typically transcribes in three to eight minutes, though seeing real theme detection means uploading more than one call.
Your first run Upload a recording and get a transcript back with keyword, sentiment, and topic tags already attached, usually within three to eight minutes for a one-hour file; the cross-recording theme view is the real payoff, but only shows a real pattern once more than one transcript is in the library.
Where it breaks
The Pay as You Go tier prices by the hour of audio and by the character of translation, which makes the real monthly cost hard to estimate before you've run a batch through it.
Browser-based, with an API/CLI/MCP surface for teams that want to pull transcription and analysis into their own tools rather than use the app directly.

When not to use it
Not for someone doing five or six interviews a quarter -- a general transcription tool paired with a chat assistant does that job for less money and far less pricing complexity. Also skip it if you need a fixed, predictable bill from day one on Pay as You Go, since that tier only tells you the real cost after your first invoice.
Most meeting notetakers answer “what was said in this call.” Speak Ai answers a different question: what keeps coming up across the last forty interviews. That is the actual job in qualitative research — user interviews, focus groups, customer calls — where no single transcript matters as much as the pattern across all of them.
The transcription itself is table stakes now; every tool in this category does it reasonably well. What separates Speak Ai is the analysis layer built on top: theme detection, sentiment, and search across a whole library of recordings at once, so a researcher can ask “how many customers mentioned pricing as a blocker” instead of rereading twelve transcripts by hand.
Who actually needs this
If you run occasional user interviews — five or six a quarter — a general-purpose transcription tool plus a chat assistant will get you most of the way there for less money. Speak Ai’s real advantage shows up at volume: an agency running interviews for multiple clients, a research team doing continuous discovery, or anyone whose job is finding what a stack of conversations has in common.
Where the pricing gets confusing
The Pay as You Go tier is genuinely useful for someone who wants API access without a subscription, but the per-hour, per-character, and per-chat pricing means the first invoice is the only reliable way to learn what a normal month costs. Budget for that discovery period rather than assuming the headline numbers translate directly to your usage.
