The verdict
Happy Scribe earns its keep on language breadth — 120-plus languages for transcription, subtitling and dubbing is wider than most rivals bother with — and the AI Chat layer means a transcript stops being something you read once and file away. The cost is a monthly AI-minutes ceiling on every paid tier below Pro, and the free trial only stretches to 45-minute files and 10 minutes of AI processing. It suits anyone working across languages or wanting a human proofreader on standby; a single-language weekly-meeting habit is served just as well by a cheaper, narrower tool.

What you need to start
- A free HappyScribe account (email and password) — no credit card for the trial
- A credit card once you move past the free plan
- Google Calendar or Outlook connected, if you want meetings auto-joined rather than uploaded after the fact
A couple of minutes to sign up with no card needed for the trial; your first transcript typically lands in about half the length of the recording you gave it.
Your first run Upload a file, pick the language and hit Create, or connect your calendar so the notetaker auto-joins a call; a transcript is usually ready in about half the recording's length, with an email when it lands, and the free trial covers up to 10 minutes of AI processing with no credit card.
Where it breaks
Human transcription and translation are a separate paid add-on, priced from $2.00/minute ($1.90/minute on the Business tier) — not included in any of the AI-only tiers above.

When not to use it
Not for someone who only ever transcribes English meetings and has no use for the AI Chat layer — the per-tier AI-minute caps make Happy Scribe pricier than single-purpose transcription tools for that narrower job. Also not for anyone who needs guaranteed verbatim accuracy without paying extra, since human proofreading is a separate add-on priced per minute rather than included in any AI tier.
Happy Scribe is a European transcription vendor with genuinely wide language coverage — 120-plus languages for subtitling and dubbing — and, more recently, an “AI Chat” layer that lets you ask questions of a transcript rather than only reading it top to bottom.
The tier structure is built around two separate resources: how long your recordings can run per file, and how many AI minutes you get each month for processing them. Free caps you at 45-minute files; every paid tier removes that ceiling and instead limits total monthly AI minutes.
Where the money buys accuracy, not just quota
The AI Chat allowance (3 files free, 10 on Basic, unlimited from Pro up) is Happy Scribe’s answer to “now that I have a transcript, what do I do with it” — asking it directly rather than reading the whole thing. But for anything where accuracy actually matters — a legal deposition, a research interview being quoted verbatim — the human proofreading add-on exists for a reason: AI transcription still makes mistakes a machine cannot catch in its own output.
Against the alternative
Set next to Sonix, Happy Scribe leans harder into languages and human-reviewed accuracy, and its AI Notetaker connects to Google Calendar or Outlook to auto-join Google Meet, Teams and Zoom calls rather than waiting for a file; Sonix leans into the AI workspace layered on top of the transcript but stays an upload-or-record-it-yourself tool, with no calendar auto-join.
